Environment Friendly

Through the years, we have been a leader in managing our business in a way that impacts the environment in a friendly, positive, and thoughtful manner. Long before others were paying attention to environmental issues, we implemented the following Environmental Vision and Management

    Recycling
  • Over 21,000 pounds of aluminum plates recycled annually.
  • Over 1,000,000 pounds of scrap paper recycled annually.

    Reducing VOCs (volatile organic compounds)
  • Paragon was one of the first printers in Utah to replace high VOC alcohol with low VOC alcohol substitutes in the pressroom over 15 years ago.
  • We use Ecotech vegetable based Environmental Inks.
  • We use software that reduces ink consumption and improves print quality. Both factors help to reduce overall waste.
  • Solvents used in proofing and plate making have been drastically reduced and the chemistry now used is non toxic and easily biodegradable.
  • All rags used at Paragon are cleaned and recycled by the ALSCO Company. All ink and chemistry is extracted according to EPA guidelines before cleaning.

    Environmentally Friendly Papers
  • Paragon Press advocates and strongly recommends to our customers the use of environmentally friendly stocks.
  • We work closely with our customers to help them understand the cost and benefits of all stocks including the various environmentally friendly and certified stocks.
  • We are qualified to purchase and print on any available stock as specified by our customers, including Recycled, Rainforest Alliance, SFI and FSC certified stocks.

    General
  • We have replaced older lighting fixtures in the Pre-Press department and the Digital Printing department with new energy efficient lights, reducing power consumption.
  • In the wintertime heat generated by the I-Gen is recaptured and used to help heat the front offices. Heat generated by our litho presses is used as supplemental heating for the pressroom.
  • The pressroom, bindery and warehouse areas are all cooled with efficient evaporative coolers.
  • Whenever possible we consolidate deliveries and pickups.
  • We are constantly integrating new processes and procedures to reduce wasteful practices.
  • To help minimize fuel use and promote our commitment to going green, we have purchased a Toyota Prius for small deliveries and pickups.
If you have suggestions about how we could further limit our environmental impact, please call us with your ideas.
